Who is life all about?

At some point in our lives, most of us will wonder what life is about. Questions of purpose, meaning and identity lie at the centre of most worldviews and religions.

Christianity, however, isn’t just a set of ideas, rules, or philosophies. At its heart, it’s about a person to know – a person who shows us exactly what God is like, and what he thinks. Christianity is about Jesus Christ.

You’re invited to find out

Over seven Monday evenings, Christianity Explored offers an introduction to Jesus through the Gospel of Mark, an eyewitness testimony about who he is, why he came, and what it means for us today.

We’ll arrive at 19:30 to enjoy dessert together and settle-in. At 20:00, we’ll begin the more structured part of the evening. We’ll read a passage from the Bible about Jesus’ life, and then we’ll watch a video together in two parts, each of which will be followed by a time of discussion around tables. This should give you and your friends an opportunity to ask any questions that you have about Jesus, his life, and his teachings. Then we’ll wrap-up at 21:00.

The theme for each evening is briefly described below.

Session 1: Jesus

In our first session Mark introduces us to who Jesus is. Mark opens his gospel with the words:

“The beginning of the good news about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God…” (Mark 1:1)

Session 2: Power & Authority

Mark reveals how Jesus’ authority is matched by his compassion for people. As you hear these accounts, consider whether the way Jesus uses his power makes him someone you could trust.

Session 3: The Problem

In this session, we’ll explore what Jesus reveals about the real problem facing humanity – and why he had to come.

Session 4: The Cross

In this session, we see that Jesus is offering the solution to our biggest problem – sin. We’re going to see God’s loving character put on show as he offers us the solution to that problem.

Session 5: The Resurrection

For many people, Jesus’ death looked like the end. His followers had scattered, and his enemies appeared to have won. But in this session, we’ll see it was all part of God’s plan – Jesus was in control, and his death wasn’t the end of the story

Session 6: The Gift

We’ve followed the story of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection through Mark’s eyewitness account. At the end we are left with a simple but life-changing invitation: follow me.

Session 7: Life with Jesus

At the heart of Mark’s Gospel is a question Jesus asked his disciple Peter: “Who do you say I am?” It’s not just a question for Peter. It’s one each of us needs to answer.
