Searching for sermons

Searching by book

If you try to search for all the sermons in one of the “more popular” books of the Bible, you may find that the list returned does not contain the sermons for which you’re searching. Try refining your search by specifying the date range, chapter or the preacher as well as the book. For example: a search for Matthew from Jan 2000 to Dec 2005 will return fewer than the maximum number of matches. The books with the most sermons preached are the gospels, though some of the other longer books such as Genesis, Romans and 1 Corinthians also have more sermons than will fit in a single search.

Searching by preacher

If you are searching for a sermon by a current or past staff preacher, you will need to restrict the search by date range and possibly by book as well.

Why are we making things awkward?

We have had to restrict the search list in order to discourage people from downloading the entire archive. We have no fundamental objections to people doing this, but it does place unreasonable demands on our hosting supplier. While it would be delightful to think that someone wants to listen to all 1800+ sermons (800+ hours) at one sitting, we do feel that this is an unlikely scenario. We understand that making files available to download (as opposed to streaming) is useful for a number of reasons. We fully expect to keep these sermons available for the foreseeable future; we aren’t going to change our minds and remove large numbers of them; you don’t need to keep your own copy of the entire archive. Just download the sermons as and when you need them please.
