Summer Activities

What is a Summer Venture?

Summer ventures are an opportunity for young people to spend time away from home learning about the Christian faith and enjoying an action-packed holiday. A typical venture goes like this: a team of 40 leaders, helped by 30 undergraduates, take over a school in a pretty location and transform it into a holiday destination. Next, 70 or so kids arrive, and morning and evening they hear talks from the Bible explaining the gospel. In between, the day is filled with games, crazy activities, food, entertainment and chilling.

What would I do?

As a volunteer, your job is to make all this happen by doing the practical tasks. Volunteers also receive great Bible teaching. If you return in later years, you may serve in other ways: maybe leading studies or giving talks.

Ventures are a great way to serve others by helping them to hear about Jesus and to grow in their trust of him. There are 90 days in the summer vac. Why not commit 10 of these to serving Jesus in this way?

Camps are a fantastic use of your holiday as a student. They are a great opportunity to have fun, serve God and receive some great teaching. Each day there's the chance to join campers in outdoor activities, games, and sports. Some menial tasks have to be done, but until camp I didn't realise that cleaning a toilet could actually be fun! Above all else it’s really exciting to see school kids hearing the gospel explained to them each day over the course of camp.

Camp is a really great way to meet lots of Christians and to keep the focus on Jesus in the holidays. Although you work hard, it's hugely rewarding to serve and to see so many young people hear the gospel, and it's really fantastic fun!
