What’s it all about?
Church can be a strange experience. And although we try to make our Sunday services as accessible as possible for anyone who’s a first-time visitor or for whom this is all just very new, there are always going to be times when you want to stick a hand up and say “I don’t think so...” or even a simple “Uh?”
And maybe your questions are more fundamental. You look at your newspaper and wonder if anyone’s up there. There’s so much suffering in the world. You’re baffled as to why so many different religions exist. Don’t they all say the same thing? Or if they don’t, who’s right and who’s wrong? Is there any such thing as ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ anyway? And does it matter? In a post-modern world is there such a thing as ‘truth’? And could we ever know it?
You’re not alone. That’s why we created a group called ‘Arena’ for people just like you. A place to ask all those questions and chew over some answers in the company of like-minded people who won’t assume anything, won’t get embarrassed by anything you say, and who’ll help you think these things through.
Arena meets over five sessions on Monday nights in an informal setting in St Andrew the Great. We start with a meal. Then a short introduction to the Christian faith leads into discussion in small groups. Email the church office if you would like to join the course or want more details, or simply turn up at St Andrew the Great on Monday evenings whenever the course is running. The next Arena course starts on:
Monday 12th May onwards, 7.00pm-9.00pm including dinner.
Please phone 01223 518218 or e-mail the church office for simple English and daytime alternatives.
An invitation is available for download here.
