Community

At St Andrew the Great there are a number of ways we seek to reach out and engage with both our immediate community in Cambridge, but also further afield through the support of mission workers in the UK and around the world.

Parish Outreach

market

Being located in the heart of the city of Cambridge, St Andrew the Great seeks to engage with its immediate community, including local businesses, market stall traders and residents. We seek to engage in personal relationships with local people, aiming to be an encouragement and support by sharing the love of Jesus. As well as visiting people in their homes or place of work, we put on a number of events in the church building throughout the year designed for those who live and work in the city centre. If you live or work in the centre of Cambridge and would like to talk to one of our parish outreach team then please contact the church office.

Homelessness

At St Andrew the Great we maintain links with a number of local homelessness charities as well as church groups to co-ordinate a Christian response to the homeless. The focal point of our work with the homeless is an annual Homelessness Sunday, at which a collection of food, clothing and other items is taken for distribution amongst the city's homeless. If you would like more information or find out how to get involved please contact the church office.

UK mission

We aim to support gospel work in the UK by giving money and encouraging prayer. We generally support projects and individuals with whom we have some personal link; during 2013 we were able to make gifts towards Bible teaching and pastoral ministry in six UK churches, and were able to contribute towards the costs of about a dozen individuals training for ministry. For more information please contact the UK mission committee.

World mission

We support members of our congregation who are overseas in gospel work with financial support and by encouraging the whole church to support them in prayer. In 2013 we supported 15 mission partners working across 5 continents, as well as helping members of the congregation to think through if God is calling them to serve overseas.

Summer venture camps

Each year many congregation members set aside a week of their summer holiday to volunteer with a Christian summer camp. Camps are a fantastic environment for children and youth to have loads of fun, make friends and learn and study the Bible. If you would like to find out more about summer venture camps please contact the church office.
